For advanced users of video files, finding quality programs for Mac to work with MKV files can be difficult. MKVToolnix for Mac has multiple features for working with these files, but only advanced users are likely to be able to interpret the program.
Available as freeware, MKVToolnix for Mac has no restrictions or payment required for its full use. Download and installation were fairly easy and only required the user to locate and initiate the program to load it for the first time. No user agreements were required to complete the setup. There is a Read Me file that comes with the program, but no other instructions are available. With the complex features and encoding formats available, beginning users will have major difficulty using the program. Advanced users will recognize the interface's options and the modifications that can be made to the MKV files. The program has nearly everything necessary for working with these video files, making it easy for advanced users to watch high definition and other videos on their computers. There does not appear to be active technical support, but a pop-up box directs users to an Internet forum for information. Video output after quickly working with a file was good and performed as expected.
With its rich number of features, MKVToolnix for Mac performs its functions well, but it may be too complex for novice users to interpret.
